Julia Ormond Bio

The beautiful and dark British actor and activist for social change Julia (Karin) Ormond was born on January 4 1965 in Surrey, into England The second of five children. She was born into privilege as the daughter of a well-to-do laboratory technician and her mother, they divorced when she was just a little girl. Julia was a student at Cranleigh High School and Guildford High School which were both private schools. She was a theatre enthusiast, appearing in two of their musicals. Julia was educated by artists. She initially wanted to be an artist. But she was able to rekindle her passion for acting after she completed one year of art school. In 1988, she graduated from the Webber-Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. She played Catherine in "Wuthering Heights" She later married Rory Edwards, an actor. She was awarded the London Drama Critic's Award in 1989 for her performance in the role of Faith Hope and Charity's "best newcomer" Julia made an immediate impact on TV as she played the role of a young drug addict on the TV show Traffik (1989). The actress gained attention for her performance in the TV-movie Young Catherine (1991), where she played Catherine the Great (also featuring husband Edwards). In the TV movie Stalin (1992) in which she played Nadya her wife. Robert Duvall was the main actor. She made the jump into feature films scoring a top-billed debut with Ralph Fiennes as the lead in The Baby of Macon (1993) the drama about a woman who gives an "immaculate birth." She followed this up with lead or second leading roles in films such as the European biopic Nostradamus (1994) as well as the romantic comedy Captives (1994) with Tim Roth; and the period war drama Legends of the Fall (1994) as the love interest of both Brad Pitt and Aidan Quinn. Around the time of this career growth (1994) when her marriage ended.
