Normally the subject of a biography has been as a key participant in major events or has enunciated distinctive ideas or proposals which have been recorded in documentary form. Barbara Heck left neither letters or statement. Actually, the only evidence we have for matters like the date of Barbara Heck's marriage comes from second-hand sources. The main documents used by Heck to describe the reasons behind her actions and motives are not available. It is still an significant figure at the start of Methodism. In this instance the biographer's task is to define and justify the myth and, if feasible, describe the real person enshrined in it.

Abel Stevens a Methodist Historian published a piece on this incident in 1866. Barbara Heck has taken the highest spot on the New World's ecclesiastical list in the wake of Methodism. Her record is primarily due to the setting of her important name, derived from the past of the famous causes with which her legacy remains forever etched through the events of her own lives. Barbara Heck was involved fortuitously in the inception of Methodism throughout both the United States and Canada and her reputation is built on the natural tendency of a highly effective organization or group to glorify its beginnings for the purpose of enhancing the sense of tradition as well as continuity with its past.
